Are you guilty, wrong or a shrew because you don’t love him?
Birce Akalay and Serkan Altunorak deliver outstanding performances in The Taming of the Shrew, a play that stands out among Shakespeare’s cult comedy texts. The play focuses on the question of who can have a say in another person’s life, and why marriage is considered so important. It also tackles the issue of labeling in relationships, and the importance of not hiding behind the mask of politeness.
In The Taming of the Shrew, Shakespeare portrays the struggle of a strong-willed woman, Katharina, who is labeled as a shrew because she refuses to conform to societal norms. The play challenges the audience to question why someone should be considered guilty, wrong, or a shrew simply because they don’t love someone.
As a timeless comedy that remains relevant to this day, “The Taming of the Shrew” reminds us of the importance of being true to ourselves and not allowing others to dictate our lives.
