I would like to thank the creators of this project and MIT for making this material available to us. As an instructor at the University of Toronto, I’ve found it immensely helpful in designing and delivering my courses. Adding material from Africa would make the project even more successful. Regards.

I first saw this performance live at Te Koanga Festival of Maori Arts1990, in Auckland. It was without doubt the finest performance I’ve ever seen and I grew up with Shakespeare. Waihoroi Shortland was a stunning and hugely sympathetic Shylock who moved most of the audience to tears. No histrionics, just a quiet man subject to prejudice trying to get justice in a system which despised him. Most Maori know exactly what that’s like.
If you could make this movie downloadable, for a fee of course, I know many people, schools & universities who would be interested. Perhaps negotiate with the Film Commission?
