Liana de Camargo Leão received her PhD in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2000. Leão is a Full Professor of Literatures in English at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), where she has taught since 1996. She completed post-doctoral studies at the Federal University of Minas Gerais.

With Dr. Marlene Soares dos Santos, Leão edited and organized the volume Shakespeare, sua época e sua obra (Shakespeare, his time and his works, 2008). She published a chapter on Shakespeare’s Villains in the book “O mundo é um palco” ( “The World is a Stage”; Edições de Janeiro, 2016). Her major contribution to Shakespeareana is her work on the three-volume edition of “The Complete Dramatic Works”, translated by Barbara Heliodora and published in 2016. She organized all the volumes and wrote introductions and notes for the translations.

Leão regularly publishes articles about Shakespeare’s works in newspapers and journals and has collaborated in many academic and non-academic books on Shakespeare. She has written 21 literature books for children, some of which have been translated into Spanish, French and English. Among her most recent work is an adaptation of “The tempest for children” for school performances. In 2016, she also wrote three scripts for stage readings of Shakespeare’s monologues.
